This coming Lord’s Day we will contemplate the enduring love of Christ through trials and tribulations. We do not trust in a God Who loses control. We do not hope in a God Who does not know the end of things. Instead, we place our security in the God of purpose. We can rejoice without losing heart in the face of heartache. We continue to run toward the goal even when all circumstances seem to say we are blown off course and feel directionless.

Our God is steadfast. Our God is sure. Jesus loves our souls and will not let go.

-nathan

P.S. Happy Mother’s Day! So many mothers know the call of being steadfast through trial. We, who have been blessed so much by this exhibition of enduring love, thank you.

As we settle into our new sermons series I have taken the opportunity to write new music. Instead of a Psalm of the Month through May, we will have a song from Philippians. In order to give you a head start on learning the new tune, here following is a Demo MP3 and basic sheet music with lyrics: (Henry Haffner on Viola & Nathan George on guitar, piano and vocal.)

MP3 Demo of “To Live is Christ” / PDF Sheet Music for “To Live is Christ”

Prayer has been our focus over the last couple weeks, and now will see how Paul’s fervent prayer is that the Church will grow in love – not a blind or push-over type of love, but one that is filled with knowledge and discernment. Only this kind of love can help us actually become those instruments of true encouragement that spur one another on toward Christ and righteousness.

“Awake my zeal; awake my love, to serve my Savior here below.” — Issac Watts

As we continue our three week theme on prayer Pastor and Missionary, Joe Harrell, will guide us through select passages of John chapters 14-16. Our Music this week is a bit more eclectic as we continue to review a few Psalm we have sung in the past, as well as a couple of my services pieces. However, several of our texts will call upon the Lord hear our prayer. Greg Wilbur’s tunes and arrangements are wonderful expressions of Psalm 5 and the text of supplication rom Horatius Bonar. In the end my hope is that we come away from worship this week with a desire to seek Christ in prayer and to see those prayers as part of the very mission we are called to.

PPC Bulletin 4.22.12

Each week we pray prayers of confession, we hear a pastoral prayer, we prayer the Lord’s prayer, and many of our songs are clearly prayers. But do we believe that prayer is an effectual means of grace? Do we truly believe that the Lord feeds us through prayer?

Over the next several weeks prayer will be a theme in our worship. In Philippians chapter 1 Paul says “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

The Westminster Confession of Faith states the following on prayer: Prayer, with thanksgiving, being one special part of religious worship, is by God required of all men: and, that it may be accepted, it is to be made in the name of the Son, by the help of His Spirit, according to His will, with understanding, reverence, humility, fervency, faith, love and perseverance; and, if vocal, in a known tongue.

Let us take hold of the opportunity to gather in corporate prayer – to join our hearts and our voices together in confession, petition, praise and thanksgiving. And, let us join with Paul as we remember each other through the week, thanking God with joy for our little parish – our covenant community. May the Lord knit us together through prayer.

-nathan

On this second Sunday of the Easter season we begin a new series in Philippians! Our theme this week which will enter our readings, our singing, and our prayers is that of Grace and Peace. All the saints at Philippi, the deacons and overseers, as well as Paul need that great gift from the Father of Light – grace. And, from Grace flow true peace. Also, this week we have the particular joy of joining together in the sacrament of Baptism where we see grace exhibited in tangible form. The Lord is adding to our midst!

“Abide with richest blessings Among us, bounteous Lord; Let us in grace and wisdom Grow daily through Thy Word. Abide, O dear Redeemer, Among us with Thy Word, And thus now and hereafter True peace and joy afford.”— Joshua Stegmann,1628

Matthew 21:12-17

And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,

“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?”

And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.</itunes:summary>
