Rise up, O sons of God! The church for you doth wait,
Her strength unequal to her task, rise up, and make her great!
This week our hymns call the church to be the church — the struggling church to be the victorious church — the bruised church to be the healed church — the church militant to be the church victorious. It is tempting to shrink back from the glorious task that has been given us, yet we do not labor in our own strength. Rather, we are chosen by Christ, our sure foundation. We arise, and He leads us. Our Lord is our captain. A yet more glorious day will break forth, as His banner is unfurled on Zion’s heights. We are Zion, the Kingdom, the Church, Jerusalem. We are Christ’s. What can shake our sure repose? —Nathan
