Home-Sickness

Last week Pastor Jamie reminded us that we as Christians have a glory that is weightier than any of the sufferings we face now on this earth. C.S. Lewis once said, “The suffering in this world is not the failure of God’s love for us; it is that love in action for believe me, this world that seems to us so substantial is no more than the shadowlands.” We are living in the shadowlands now, but every loss and pain we experience on this earth cannot be compared to the joy we will find when we arrive home. In the shadowlands, we are weak. We are a captive people. We wonder when our sorrows will ever end. Paul encourages us that our heavenly Father is preparing a home for us where we will feast and weep no more. Our weeping will be turned into dancing. Our anxious fears will be engulfed by songs of praises. As Isaiah says, “He will swallow up death forever and the Lord will wipe away tears from all faces.” In these shadowlands, we will have dangers, toils and snares, but grace has brought us safe thus far. As we anticipate eternity, let’s fix our eyes on Jesus — our precious Lord who promises to take our hand and lead us home. —Emma Marsh
