What is the Gospel? How much or how little of it must you affirm to be saved? Could you get away with just “Christ died for me”? Could you simply confess “Jesus is Lord”? Is that enough to get you in by the skin of your teeth? I would suggest that this sort of question misses the point of the Gospel altogether. Rather, the Gospel is the good news about who Christ is, what He has done, and what He is doing – not to mention what the Father and the Spirit are accomplishing! Shouldn’t we want to immerse ourselves in this as much as possible? The Gospel is all encompassing: our question should be how much of it can we live, not how little. Notice how the hymns we sing this morning accurately (if never fully) express the grandness of Gospel truths through the depth of poetic nuance. Today, bask in the Alpha and Omega of the Gospel.
