The past few weeks in the Psalms, one of the predominant themes has been the seeming prosperity of the wicked. In Psalm 16, David still witnesses the prosperity of the wicked. We live in a world that is not unlike David’s. We live in a world where there are jail sentences for the righteous, fines for the upright, and probations for the godly. In Psalm 16, David remembers that the sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply. This is a reminder for us as well this morning. We rejoice that the Lord is King! We praise Him for gently bearing us even when it seems the wicked prosper. Our souls are not abandoned to Sheol. Instead, death’s sting is lost forever. It is stripped of power and the Lord’s reign shall know no end. Our Redeemer overcame the grave and plundered Satan’s store. We know the King who holds the keys to life and death. He lives forevermore. Because of this, we will boldly proclaim, “Death, where is thy sting? Where, grave, thy victory?” Though the wicked seem to prosper in the land, we will not fear. Our God is our chosen portion and our cup. Glory! Hallelujah! —Emma Marsh
