Verzuiling: Reformation Starting Here, Starting Now
Verzuiling is a Dutch word that roughly translated means “pillarization.” Abraham Kuyper used the term to illustrate his vision for reforming a society that had already run far along the Modernist downgrade. It was his shorthand for strategic, dynamic, Gospel-centered, and missional living for all the spheres of life in the midst of an increasingly pagan culture. It was his declaration of how to begin the work of real reformation—starting right where we are, at this very moment. During our Lententide Wednesday evenings at Parish, we will explore what it might mean to recover the hopeful vision of Verzuiling in our own lives, our own families, our own church, and our own community.
