I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds. —Psalm 9:1
We began this “summer in the psalms” with a commandment to recount the things that God has done for us (Psalm 9:1). As we come to the close of this sermon series, we find David again telling what God has done for him, in this case recounting the Lord’s explicit answer to the prayer for victory found in Psalm 20. Throughout this morning’s service, we will recount along with David all the things God has done. He has “delivered us from the domain of darkness” (Colossians 1:13). He has won the victory (O Sing A New Song To The Lord—Psalm 98). He blesses us with His love and crushes the fiends of hell (I Know That My Redeemer Lives). He has put the rulers and authorities of this world to open shame (Colossians 2:14). He has pardoned our guilt (Blest Is The Man—Psalm 32). The service concludes by singing the first and last psalms in the series, declaring that He has never turned from those who seek Him (O Lord Most High—Psalm 9) and that He has graciously given all the blessings we have craved (The King In Your Strength Shall Be Glad—Psalm 21). —Henry C.
