This morning we will explore the central them of the book of Hebrews: as Pastor Jamie put it during devotions earlier
this week, “Jesus is best.” Every Scripture, hymn, and psalm in the service points to some aspect of Jesus’ greatness.
He is a great King above all gods (Psalm 95), and He reigns exalted over all creation (O Come Before The Lord Our
King—Psalm 95). He rules in the midst of His enemies (Psalm 110). Every knee shall bow before Him, and all wreaths
of empire meet upon His brow (At The Name Of Jesus). He is the radiance of the glory of God (Hebrews 1:3)—the
“Brightness of God above” (Light Of The Anxious Heart). He is fairer and purer than the angels (Fairest Lord Jesus),
who fall prostrate at His feet (All Hail The Power Of Jesus’ Name) and cannot bear the sight of His glorified beauty
(Crown Him With Many Crowns). His power can make even lepers clean (Mark 1:40-42; Jesus Paid It All). Like the
author of How Great Thou Art, our response to the staggering greatness of Jesus Christ should be “I scarce can take it
in!” —Henry C. Haffner
